Public Service Announcement: Take the Photo
PSA: Take the dang picture.
As the holiday season is rapidly approaching with family events and family photoshoots for fall sessions and Christmas cards, I’m here to tell you to take the picture.
They’re important.
Even if they seem like they’re not.
Even if it seems unnecessary or inconvenient because you really just want to watch sports or cut into the turkey or just not get dressed up for the photos.
Even if you don’t like how you look and don’t want your picture taken.
They’re necessary. They’re important. They matter.
Your kids, your grandkids, they don’t care how you look. They love you no matter what. In the future, they’ll just want photos to look back on and see you in them. Take the photos for them.
Take the Photos
Because one day, you’re gonna want to look back on this time in your life and reminisce.
Because one day, you might not remember these days too well and need to remember and pictures are great for that.
Because one day, those pictures may be all you have.
You never know when the last picture is going to be. And let’s face it, the only time we know we have is right now. So, take the photo. Stand there and smile.
Your kids will cherish those photos and so will their kids. Time flies by so fast. We all know that, it’s the age-old adage. Don’t you want to capture this moment in time? Don’t you want something to be able to look back on in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, and 25 years from now?
It doesn’t have to be a professional photo session. It can be right before you carve the turkey on Thanksgiving Day or after you open presents on Christmas morning. Gather around, take a selfie or if someone else is there, let them take the photo & you do the same for them.
Pictures tell a story.
They document a moment in time.
Pictures help you remember the memories you’ve made like that time you and your family wore matching t-shirts for family day or the moment you walked across the stage for your high school graduation or even the sillier ones like when your dad couldn’t find the pair of shoes he wanted so he showed up to Easter barefoot. Or the last time your whole family was together in one place.
Even if you don’t think you’ll want to remember or look back on these photos, there’s probably someone in your life who will.
Photos will last forever. Besides, you never know when you’ll capture your favorite photo.
Love,
Some of the photos I shared here are from photography sessions that I’ve done & you can check out their blog posts here and here.
