Daytrip to Dahlonega, GA

I think sometimes we say things like “Let’s do ___!” and then we never actually do said thing for a variety of reasons. When Macy (my sister) suggested we go to Dahlonega for a daytrip to see the quaint town and their Christmas decorations and do some shopping, she made sure it didn’t turn into one of those situations where we never ended up doing it.

We went on Monday with our mom, Grammy, and a family friend to explore the quaint little town.

Dahlonega, GA Christmas Tree

They had a beautiful tree with reindeer and a sleigh and a cute little box for letters for Santa. That scene felt straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movies. (I would know because I watch a ton of them! 😉 )

Doesn’t this just scream quaint small town?! I love it!

The town square might look small but there are a ton of shops there! You walk into one building thinking it’s one store and next thing you know, there are three stores in there.

Our favorites were: High Cotton inside Mary’s Mini Mall & the General Store.

High Cotton had a bunch of home décor featuring a lot of (cute) Christmas decorations.

The General Store was pretty much exactly like what you’d expect from a general store: shirts, trinkets, candy, jams, jellies, coffee, etc.

We made 2 trips into the General Store & on our second trip we ran into a film crew! Yes, a film crew. At first we had no idea what was happening because it was so low-key. A guy walked past me with a walkie-talkie and an ear piece & I absentmindedly thought that was odd because the store really isn’t big or fancy enough for that but I thought, “what do I know?” When we went to checkout, a man who I’m presuming is the owner, leaned over the counter and said “They’re filming a Lifetime Christmas movie up there (there’s a second floor that’s separated from the first by a few stairs). That’s why we’re all being so quiet.” WHAT?!

We never would’ve known unless they told us because it was that low-key. There was one film van in the parking lot and that was literally it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a look at any of the actors/actresses because there were half of a dozen crew members standing in front of them but still…how cool is that?!

I’m so excited just thinking about how I was in a store where they were filming a Lifetime Christmas movie. If you hear the sound of something falling during a scene in a General Store, that was us! Haha!

Dahlonega isn’t a stranger to Christmas movies. Hallmark’s movie Christmas in Homestead with Michael Rady and Taylor Cole was also filmed there a few years ago. It’s super cute movie if you haven’t seen it!

For lunch we ate at Shenanigan’s which is an Irish pub. We sat out on an enclosed porch so we didn’t have quite the pub atmosphere but the food was good.

We, of course, stopped at a couple of different places to take photos because that’s just a non-negotiable.

Dahlonega makes for a great day trip and would make a good trip even if it isn’t at Christmastime though Christmas décor makes everything better in my book! 🙂

Comment below & let me know if you’ve ever been & what your favorite store or restaurant there is! I want to hear all about it!
